Rooms can be limited, but not ideas

People live in small apartments either by choice or circumstance. With the craze and love for minimalism, you might be living in a small home. Or, due to the shortage of residential lands, you have no other option than having to live in a compact place. And residing in small spaces can pose big problems. The worst-case scenario is if you live there with your family. So, making yourself as comfortable as possible is a must. And to do so, the first thing you need to do is space management or maximizing space. Here are some tips on how to do so

Place Multifunctional Furniture

Multifunctional furniture pieces serve multiple purposes. So, you do not need to buy multiple furniture for each of your needs. To explain, for your living and common rooms you can use the coffee tables with storage options. These tables mainly have built-in storage compartments such as shelves and pull-out drawers. You can store your magazines, newspapers, TV consoles, or remotes safely there.

Some tables have lift-top lids, and these are perfect for arranging seating, gathering for a coffee session, and storing blankets.

Also, you can make your bedroom both a personal retreat and a workspace. The Murphy beds or folding beds can work as both a work desk and a bed when needed. You can also place the foldable sofas that can double as beds.

Utilize the Vertical Space

To keep the floor free of mess and overstuffing, use the vertical spaces. Wall-mounted cabinets and shelves can store your essentials without occupying the floor. You get more floor space to place anything you need.

Also, you can install hanging hooks and pegboards in your entrance and kitchen. You can easily keep your keys, scarves, bags, and pots in these hanging storages.

Customized Furniture

It is easy to go to the stores and pick some random piece of furniture. But it is not a wise decision for small home apartments. Because these ready pieces are not specifically made for your several needs. And the miserable part of buying these is these might not fit well into your rooms. Therefore, professional home interior design experts recommend custom-made furniture.

Customized furniture is unique to your needs. Designers make these based on the requirements of your rooms and your choices. Personalized furniture will not be too small or too large for your space. They will align perfectly with the rooms. Also, if you want, you can opt for multifunctional, built-in furniture. So, if you want extra storage with your furniture, you need to convey your needs.

Install Sliding Doors

Sliding doors are a clever way to maximize any small space. These doors do not take up much space, unlike the traditional swinging door. So, to make your rooms appear spacious, use sliding doors in the kitchen and for closets.

Also, if you do not have a separate living and dining area, you can use this door as a divider to compartmentalize each room. It helps to create a distinct area for your home.

Proper Furniture Placement

There needs to be harmony between the furniture and the rooms. For that, you need to thoughtfully place the furniture. Only then will there be enough space throughout your home to use each corner of your home properly.

To understand where to place which furniture, you need to study scale. It means you should avoid overstuffing rooms with furniture in proportion to your rooms. For example, you should not block the entrance or corners of the room with large furniture.

In the corners, keep display shelves, decor items, and hanging reading nooks to pop up the space. Also, for the large furniture, use the center of the rooms.

While doing so, try to keep a balance throughout the room. So, do not keep one side too overstuffed and the other side too empty.

Use of Colors

Colors not only add aesthetic character to your home but also make a compact space appear larger. But not all colors can do that. Only warm-toned colors, specifically white, gray, and beige shades, can reflect light and create an illusion of a spacious room.

The color coding is not limited to walls only. It applies to the furniture, flooring, ceiling, and textiles. Apart from the neutral or light colors, you can also apply vibrant ones, but with limitations. If you have any dedicated reading or display corners, you can highlight these places with bright colors such as yellow, red, and other cool tones. These create a focal point to make your home look bigger.

Smart Kitchen

The kitchen takes up a crucial part of our home. It is not wrong to say that it is the heart of your home. But coming up with a clutter-free kitchen for small apartments is challenging. But with thoughtful interior design, you can do so.

Nowadays, modular kitchens are in high demand as they can accommodate every type of kitchen need, even in the smallest areas. The most common shape for this is the L-shaped kitchen. It has the features to make the most of your kitchen.

This kitchen integrates ample smart storage solutions. You will have a lot of pull-out drawers, cabinets, and shelves for maximizing space. It will allow you to store your essential belongings without any mess.  As the essentials are stored inside, the flooring is spacious enough for other flow of work.

Some cabinets have a lift-up push. So, the cabinet door uses the vertical space to open. It saves space.

It is a huge misconception that small apartments can not maximize space. If you have the proper interior design, even a small home can look more organized and spacious than many poorly designed large homes. Maximizing space is all about some clever and thoughtful decisions. And who can be more expert in this field than the interior designer themselves? They blend their skills with your choice, requirements, and lifestyle to transform any small home. You might think it is a waste of time to consult interior designers. But in the long run, it saves money and energy. Because they design homes considering the trends and needs that stay relevant for years to come.
