One material rule runs through this room, which is that nothing dark sits at eye level. A heavy timber dining set does most of its damage after sunset, when it stops returning the little light a compact room has and starts swallowing it instead. White Lacquer on a Moisture Resistant Carcass
A full height run of cabinetry occupies one long wall, sprayed white, with glass fronted uppers and solid lowers. It is built to the slab rather than stopped a foot below it, which removes the ledge that otherwise collects Dhaka dust and buys a full extra shelf for the things used twice a year. The carcass is board on a moisture resistant core, chosen for a city where a shut cabinet in June holds air at eighty per cent humidity. Marble on the Table and on the Serving Counter
The dining table is marble topped and sized for six, and a second marble run sits at waist height between the upper and lower cabinets, working as a serving counter through a meal. Real stone was used rather than an engineered surface because a slab was available locally at the length needed, and on the understanding that turmeric and lemon will mark it over the years. That is a condition of using stone, not a fault in it. Sealed twice a year it stays workable, and left alone it takes on a patina.

Gold Metal and Crystal Overhead
Gold appears three times, as linear sconces across the feature wall, as slim pulls on the lower cabinet doors, and in the frames of the glazed partition. The sconces are horizontal bars mounted inside the grid squares rather than crossing them, which sounds trivial and needed a full setting out drawing, because the panel module and the sconce length had to be agreed before either was ordered. Hardware throughout is solid brass finished rather than plated steel, since plating lifts in this climate inside a few seasons.
Above the table hangs a crystal drum chandelier. A drum shade was specified instead of an open crystal frame because the ceiling is a standard slab height, and an open fixture at the diameter this table needs would have dropped into the sightline across it, leaving people talking through the light. The shade also throws light down onto faces rather than scattering it sideways, which counts at the one table where the household is together in the evening.
Clear Glass, Frosted Glass and What Each One Hides
Upper cabinet doors are clear glass with internal lighting, so the crockery itself becomes the display and nothing decorative was needed on top of the run. At the far end the partition doors are frosted, and the corridor render shows why both belong on the same page. Standing in the corridor you look through this room to a soft glow and a suggestion of the living room beyond, not into it. Clear glass where the contents are arranged, frosted glass where the contents are people.
The White Grid Panel Wall
The opposite wall is panelled in a white grid, square modules with a raised bead, and it is the reason this room does not read as a corridor with a table in it. Grid was specified here precisely because the living room next door is fluted. Two white rooms sharing a doorway need different geometry or they collapse into each other, and the difference has to be strong enough to survive being seen through glass. Edge Banding, Hinges and the Things Nobody Sees
Before a fabrication drawing is released, the unglamorous list has to be closed. Carcass board and its core, edge banding thickness, hinge grade and soft close rating, shelf pin spacing, the exact position of the refrigerator so a side by side unit sits faced into the cabinet line with no dust gap on either flank, and the depth of the marble nosing. Colour is the last thing agreed and the easiest thing to change later. A 16 mm decision made badly is permanent.
All of it is settled before the first sheet goes through the saw, and elevations are signed at that stage rather than at the pretty stage.
