One wall in this bedroom is decoration rather than architecture, and it is the only one doing that job. This is the smallest of the three secondary bedrooms in this Bashundhara R/A Block-L apartment, and it still had to take a full hanging wardrobe, a dressing position and a double bed without any of them touching. Floor area, not taste, is what set the approach. Concentrating the character budget on one vertical surface does more for a room this size than spreading the same money across four, so the wall behind the bed became a backlit fluted panel and the other three stood down. The room sits at the quiet end of the 2,000 sq ft Bashundhara R/A Block-L apartment project.
One Decorated Wall and Three Plain Ones
The fluted panel is lit from its edges so the light grazes sideways across the ribs rather than pointing out into the room. Ribs are around thirty millimetres wide with a shallow radius and take the same white as the rest of the joinery, which means the pattern comes entirely from shadow and not from colour. In daylight the wall reads as texture. After dark it becomes the only light needed to cross the room, dimmed at the door.
A round marble disc hangs on that same wall and is the room’s single piece of art, its stone matched to the flooring used through the luxury living room design in Bashundhara R/A Block-L. One surface carrying this much of a room only works while the other three stay empty, which is why nothing else is hung above waist height apart from the dressing mirror.
No Bedside Lamps and No Cords in the Skirting
Both nightstand tops had to stay clear, and in a room where the nightstand is barely wider than a paperback that is a requirement rather than a preference. Two gold ring pendants hang instead, one either side at bedside height, which empties both surfaces and removes two socket outlets from the skirting line. Drop height was fixed on site with the mattress in place rather than on the drawing, because the right height depends on mattress thickness and mattress thickness is the one dimension nobody confirms early enough.
Both pendants switch at the bed and again at the door, so the room can be crossed and shut down without anybody feeling along a wall in the dark. The rings are the same brushed gold as the fittings over the table in the luxury dining room design in Bashundhara R/A Block-L.
A Full Wardrobe With No Straight Wall to Put It On
Hanging storage was not negotiable and there was no straight run long enough to take it. The wardrobe is a classic panelled unit in white with slim gold handles set vertically on each leaf, built into the corner so the angle becomes usable depth rather than dead volume. Its doors carry the same raised bead profile as the bedroom door beside it, which is why the unit sits against the wall as joinery instead of standing out as furniture. Corner wardrobes usually disappoint because a rectangular box gets pushed into a corner and the diagonal is thrown away. Here the internal layout was drawn to the corner geometry first, so the deep return takes long hanging while the shallow flanks carry shelving and drawers. How Much Floor Stays Visible
Nothing in this room meets the floor except the bed and one stool. The dresser is a plain white slab hung off the wall with concealed brackets, no legs and no plinth, and it carries a gold framed mirror above it with the frame kept narrow so it does not read as a second object on the wall. A grey upholstered stool tucks under the dresser and pushes fully out of sight when nobody is sitting there. Nightstands are wall hung for the same reason. Visible floor reads as area you still have, and in a room this size the gap between a hung dresser and a legged one is worth about a square metre of apparent space. Sweeping underneath is easier as well, which counts for more in Dhaka than it would in a drier city.
No Wallpaper, No Accent Wall, No Rug
Colour is left out of this room entirely. There is no wallpaper, no painted feature wall and no rug, and all three are standard issue in the show flats around this neighbourhood, which is a good part of why the room reads as calmer than they do. What is left is white joinery, brushed gold hardware and a soft neutral bed. Restraint of that kind only survives if the one feature carries enough weight, which is why the fluting runs full height instead of stopping at headboard level. Half height fluting needs something else above it, and then the room is back to decorating four walls. What the Feature Wall Costs and Why It Earns It
A fluted panel and a run of concealed strip light cost a fraction of what an extra square foot of floor costs in Bashundhara, and that arithmetic is what makes small rooms rewarding to work on. The panel is machined in sheet, sprayed, then installed in sections with the joints falling inside the valley of a rib where they stop being visible. The light channel is rebated into the panel before spraying rather than surface fixed afterwards, and that order is most of the difference between a wall that looks machined and one that looks stuck on. It also means the rebate depth, the driver position and the switch drop have to be right before fabrication starts, because none of the three can be corrected once the panel is standing.
