Push the door open and the study corner arrives before the bed does. A white desk sits under floating shelves on the left, the wardrobe run starts immediately to the right of the door frame, and the bed is straight ahead against a wall of moulded white relief. The room reads as joinery first and furniture second, which is what happens when three functions have to share one single bed room.
Sleeping, studying and dressing all happen inside these four walls, and each of the three has its own light source and its own switch. Fitting them in meant that no piece of joinery does only one job. The 2,000 sq ft Bashundhara R/A Block-M apartment project gave this room a modest footprint, and every centimetre of wall was accounted for before the first elevation was drawn.
What the Doorway Shows First
The render taken from the door is the honest one. From here the room presents its two long walls at once, with the bed foot closing the view and the window throwing light across the desk. Nothing stands loose on the floor in that first view except the bed and a stool, which is the only reason a room of this size photographs as calmly as it does.
The ceiling fitting is deliberately off centre, pushed toward the study end, because a room this shape splits into a bright working half and a quieter sleeping half and a central light would have flattened both. Skirting, architrave and door leaf are sprayed the same white as the joinery, so the boundary between wall and cupboard disappears and the eye reads one continuous surface from the door frame round to the window reveal.
Straight Ahead: The Moulded Floral Panel
The wall behind the bed carries a moulded floral relief panel, sprayed the same white as the ceiling and the joinery around it. Pattern here is texture rather than print, which is a durability decision more than an aesthetic one. A printed wallpaper of flowers has a shelf life measured in the age of the child, while a relief panel can be rolled in a new colour in an afternoon and looks intentional at any age. The upholstered bed sits directly against it with no headboard competing for the same wall. Down the Right Hand Wall to the Wardrobe
The wardrobe runs in white with slim gold handles and a mirrored centre section breaking the middle of the run. That mirror is the room’s full length dressing mirror, which removes the need for a freestanding one and returns the floor area it would have taken. It is also positioned opposite the window, so daylight coming in is thrown back across the room and into the study corner instead of being absorbed by a wall of white doors. Gold appears here at the same restraint as the metalwork over the basin in the modern dining room design in Bashundhara R/A Block-M, which is to say in small quantities and never as a full surface.
Daylight, the Mirror and the Dressing Table
At the window sits a dressing table with an arched mirror lit around its edge, open shelves beside it for the things used every morning, and a stool that tucks completely under the counter so nothing projects into the walkway. The arch is borrowed from the alcove bench in the modern living room design in Bashundhara R/A Block-M, and it is the quietest possible way of connecting a child’s room to the rest of the apartment without making the room look grown up. Daylight from the window and the mirror lighting are on different circuits, because the two are needed at different times of day.
The Study Corner Under the Shelves
The desk is white, wall hung, and deep enough for a laptop and an open book side by side. Above it, floating bookshelves are set at the height of school textbooks rather than at a standard spacing, so the shelves are actually full instead of holding a row of paperbacks with dead air above them. Task light comes from a strip under the lowest shelf, which puts it in front of the work rather than behind the head, and it runs at a neutral temperature so print stays legible late in the evening.
Power comes up through a grommet at the back of the desk top, and the sockets sit at the side rather than under the front edge where a knee finds them. Being wall hung, the desk leaves the floor beneath it clear, so the room sweeps out in one pass and a second chair can be pulled in at exam time. Turning Back to Look From the Door
Standing at the door again, what holds the room together is that no zone owns a wall of its own. Three finishes do the whole room: one white on every surface, gold on the handles and the mirror frames, and soft upholstery on the bed.
